WALE(wah-lay) – Next UP?

wale_chilling With his new single “Chillin”, generating a buzz like Chris Mullen’s, I figured Wale would be the next artist to post. The self proclaimed “Ambassador of rap for the capital Washington D.C.” was a spokes model for a few LRG ads and has been featured in a multitude of e-zines/mags like Complex, WIRED, Rolling Stone, Fader, just to name a few and has graced the covers of URB and XXL where he was dubbed one of the 10 freshmen of Hip-Hop’s class of ’09. Within it they classify him as an artist that sounds like a cross between Kanye and Black Thought which is pretty spot on if you have ever listened to his rapid fire metaphor lyrics laced around content about being fly, what it’s like in the DMV (Oh yeah you heard his ode to Nike Goadome Boots – “Nike Boots“), and the struggle of being a hip hop artist in these times.

With the song “Good Girls” generating local buzz and radio spins in the D.C./Maryland area it eventually caught the ear of British Producer/DJ/artist/Radio Show Host Mark Ronson which lead to Wale joining Mark on his U.K. Tour. With the U.K. international tour, a strong internet presence, features within many different facets of media, and music making large dents within the mixtape circuit he definitely had and still is making a lot of intelligent moves to spread his brand and sound of music to whoever had their ears open. Getting the vocal support of the likes of Jay-Z and Kanye West didn’t hurt either. Wake up with The Hundreds

In 2008 Wale signed a joint venture deal with Mark Ronson’s Allido Records and Interscope but the aforementioned industry friendships has led him to signing with Jay-Z’s Roc nation and has been seen rockin’ the Roc-A-Fella chain as worn by Jay-Z’s Roc-A-fella artists.

He has said that his next mixtape collabo with producer “9th Wonder”  titled “Back To The Feature” will be available no later than June 13 2009. Also the name of his upcoming album will be called “Attention Deficit”.

Even if you don’t know who Wale is you probably seen him or heard his music and didn’t realize it. It’s OK, you will get a pass for now since he is beginning to emerge as one of Class of ’09 budding stars. Check his Myspace, Youtube or Google him for his music and get familiar. This dude isn’t just a problem he is solidifying his spot as one who is next up.
